Maggie Update 12/11/2025 Maggie approaches life with a cautious curiosity towards everything. She is a very bright, intelligent, and hard-working little gal. Having just had her first birthday in October, she is all grown up and ready to take the world by storm. Highlights: ● Good with dogs and cats. She will give chase to outdoor cats given the chance, with no intention to harm, just chase. ● She is VERY affectionate! ● Learning that people are great sources of all things good. ● Great camping dog! ● Up for any adventure, and she is a very busy girl. She needs lots of exercise and stimulation. She is no couch potato. A couple of walks a day will not be sufficient for her needs. She tears around the farmyard and helps with chores at her foster home. ● She seems to stick pretty close to her people, but still is shy if approached. Think “social distance dog,” she is always about 6 feet away. ● She is warming up to new people much faster these days and will approach on her own for a good sniff and will accept pets at that point. ● GREAT on a leash! Maggie might be one of the bravest dogs I have ever met. Coming from an unknown situation with very little human interaction, she has come so far! She is gaining confidence daily, and her possibilities are endless. Maggie still has some work to do in building confidence, and I am confident that with a solid partnership and a couple of obedience classes under her belt, she will break her walls down for good. Maggie will need a fenced yard; she is prone to flee when startled, and she runs with wild abandon. Another thing Maggie is still working on is a threshold/confinement fear. She LOVES her crate, but she bolts out of it like a rocket. She also still struggles with fear urination sometimes in her crate. We have been working hard on this and have been finding some success! I believe in complete transparency and want those interested in this beauty to know that she still has some baggage she is hauling around with her. The last quirk I find in Maggie is something to keep in mind if Maggie has the opportunity to play with other dogs. Maggie has a habit of trying to grab toys out of my resident dog's mouth. This may be a problem for her if she attempts to snag a toy from a less tolerant dog. I have been working on breaking this habit, but she persists. I am just tossing this information out there as a caution to keep in mind.
Maggie is being fostered in Onondaga, Michigan.
